The Animal Foundation Flooded With Animals In 2024
Las Vegas is absolutely filled with animal lovers, with so many non-profits focusing towards the animal community. Heck, we throw our own paw-ty from time to time. But unfortunately it hasn’t translated into fewer animals entering The Animal Foundation.
With more than a week left in 2024, the animal shelter that provides services for the City Of Las Vegas, the City Of North Las Vegas and Clark County has seen a sharp increase compared to last year.
Intakes At The Animal Foundation Jolt Up By Thousands
How bad is it? In their annual public meeting they gave the stark reality: 24,056. That is how many animals The Animal Foundation has had come out of a bad situation and into their door. It is an increase nearing 18 percent compared to this time last year and a stark reminder of the need to get a handle on animals in the valley.
From illegal breeding operations to runaway dogs to owners that can’t take care of their animals anymore, The Animal Foundation has been inundated even further than years past.
There have been worries of overcrowding at the shelter, but you may have seen on several occasions The Animal Foundation pulls a promotional adoption lever to get animals into loving homes and out of their kill shelter as soon as humanly possible.
That’s right, The Animal Foundation is a kill shelter as is required of their contract. That said, they have been making a consistent effort through outreach and community engagement to lower the numbers down to zero.
They Are The Only Bidder For The Government Contract
The Animal Foundation is currently bidding to maintain their government contract with Las Vegas, North Las Vegas and Clark County. And they are bidding against… themselves.
According to KTNV, the shelter is looking for $5 million more annually, bringing their yearly contract to $14 million. If no other shelter is willing to bid, the non-profit may very well get it.
