Finalists Unveil 1 October Memorial Designs To Las Vegas Public
It was a day this community will never forget. October 1st, 2017 brought untold pain, loss and later resilience to our community and families across America. A permanent memorial honoring the victims was built in a matter of a few days in the Arts District. However Clark County has been working slowly and methodically to unveil a permanent memorial at the northeast corner of the Route 91 Harvest Festival site at Reno and Giles. Now, 1 October Memorial designs are being released to the public for viewing.
Designs from various architectural groups went on display today at the Clark County Government Center’s Rotunda Gallery.
The two acre site donated by MGM Resorts International will be a permanent memorial honoring the victims of that awful day, and the acts of heroism that came from the carnage. Designs from OLIN, SWA Group, JCJ Architecture, Aaron Neubert Architects+studioSTIGSGAARD and Paul Murdoch Architects, the five finalists, will be on display.
The finalists in the 1 October Memorial have done incredible work
SWA Group in particular designed the memorial for the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Connecticut. Paul Murdoch Architects designed the memorial for the Flight 93 crash on September 11th, 2001. All of the firms have had experience creating thoughtful dedications in communities throughout the country.
The renderings can be viewed by the public through September 7th at the Clark County Government Center at Grand Central Parkway and Bonneville Ave Monday through Thursday from 7:30am-5:30pm.
The design firms will each hold 40 minute presentations for the public to sit in on. That takes place June 14th at 4pm at the Clark County Government Center Chambers. The memorial commission is expected to deliberate and have a final recommendation for the site on September 5th.
