Vegas Luck: Local Father And Son Nearly On Doomed Titanic Sub
It is hard to imagine the feeling of knowing you could have been killed. It is something Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane and director and now Las Vegas resident Mark Wahlberg likely felt. They were both scheduled to be on Flight 11 on September 11th, 2001. Thankfully and through sheer luck, didn’t make their flights. Well, a Las Vegas father and son are feeling fortunate to be alive. They were nearly on the doomed OceanGate Titan sub near the site of the Titanic disaster.
In interviews, Jay Bloom and his son Sean admit they were personally invited to be on this very trip down over 12,000 feet below sea level. OceanGate co-founder Stockton Rush invited them in for the trip and while the idea of it was exciting. But something didn’t sit right with them. From Stockton’s experimental two-seater plane, to Sean doing some Google searches to find the myriad of experts who were a little suspect of the submarine’s viability.
So, what did the father and son do about the Titanic trip?
At the end of they day decided to get creative with politely declining the trip. Those seats ended up going to Pakistani billionaire Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman. That son also had reservations about the trip.
In total, five people including Stockton Rush himself perished likely instantly in an implosion about a quarter mile from the Titanic site.
The incident is currently under investigation, while the OceanGate headquarters in Washington state are closed. Titanic director James Cameron, himself a deep sea diver, has gone on the record stating his long held issues with the submersible and his worries that the vessel wouldn’t be up to the task.
All that is known for sure is life can be fleeting. This local father and son are surely counting their blessings today.
