A’s Move To Las Vegas: Bryce Harper Remains Unconvinced
April 2028, tens of thousands will pack a sold out baseball stadium on the Strip. That’s what we are being told, at least. The A’s move to Las Vegas is still on the docket. The Tropicana site is about to be imploded. The Stadium Authority is set to hear the latest plans from the Athletics. But many remain unconvinced, including Las Vegas’ most famed baseball son.
Damning Article In LA Times Casts Doubt On A’s Move To Las Vegas
Of all the people you’d think would be thrilled to have Major League Baseball in Las Vegas, you’d imagine that College Of Southern Nevada star turned Philadelphia Phillies slugger Bryce Harper would be at the top of the list. But a new article from the Los Angeles Times asking MLB players for their opinions on the A’s move to Las Vegas is surprising.
“It’s a tough thing to see the A’s go away from Oakland,” said Harper. Note he isn’t speaking of baseball as a whole coming to the valley, but in particular the Oakland Athletics relocating to Las Vegas. He notes in his comment that the city is still locked in on Vegas Golden Knights fandom and he doesn’t see the long tenured history of the A’s playing well in Las Vegas.
His comments were among the nicer ones. Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Paul Sewald flat out called it a “terrible idea,” noting that many in the Las Vegas valley are Dodgers fans.
Not exactly the rousing support that the Golden Knights and Raiders felt.
Learning More About The A’s Move To Las Vegas Thursday
At a meeting with the Las Vegas Stadium Authority set for Thursday, we are expecting to learn more about the A’s move to Las Vegas and the construction and financing of said construction.
There have been some questions as to whether the A’s owner can afford the project, or if it is the best use of state and county funds. Thursday we’ll get a clearer picture if this is really happening or if it is Las Vegas’ newest Mirage.
