Las Vegas Casket Thief Sentenced To Drug Treatment
You don’t see this every day, and for that we are thankful. When news of a Las Vegas casket thief hit the news, we couldn’t believe our eyes. 47 year old Patricia Sierra was seen walking into a local funeral home, taking a casket with a body inside with her and leaving the body in front of the location. Well, she was just sentenced, and she’ll be avoiding prison.
What Did Video Catch The Las Vegas Casket Thief Do?
On August 27th, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department got a call about a body in front of a business on Charleston and Rancho. That business is Affordable Cremation and Burial Service and when they arrived that’s what they saw. The body of a deceased person laying face down in front of the funeral home.
When Metro looked at security camera footage, they saw the Las Vegas casket thief.
The video showed Sierra smashing her way into the location, taking a casket and wheeling it out of the facility. The body found its way in front of the location, and Sierra was later found by police saying she blacked out and doesn’t remember what transpired.
She was charged with burglary, grand larceny and disturbing human remains, but after taking a plea deal on September 24th, she only pled guilty to burglary.
Plea Deal Results In No Prison Time
Obviously the story is sick and twisted, but the court felt as though prison time wouldn’t do the trick. Given her substance abuse problem, the judge in the case, Judge Tara Clark Newberry of Clark County District Court, ordered her into a drug treatment program. She will be monitored electronically and be subject to random drug testing. She will also be on probation.
Sometimes a bit of grace can lead to an amazing change in someone’s life. Hopefully in the case of Patricia Sierra, she gets the help she needs.
