Dude Perfect Sets Record At The Strat, Almost Kills Pedestrians
People of a certain age remember the legendary McDonald’s commercial featuring Boston Celtics legend Larry Bird and Chicago Bulls icon Michael Jordan. In it, the pair face off for who will get lunch that day. The trick shots were hysterically outlandish (and also faked). Dude Perfect and their record basketball shot from the top of The Strat in Las Vegas was less of a trick, and more of a prayer.
The Dude Perfect boys set out to reclaim the title for the “World’s Highest Basketball Shot”. It was a record they had for years until another YouTube channel took the title from them off a dam in Africa from 660 feet in the sky.
When you get into these heights, the shots are less about talent and more about chance. One subtle breeze, one slight spin of the ball when you get go, and that ball could be 300 feet away from your target. A basketball racing through the sky with a velocity sure to hurt someone badly.
That’s something that isn’t so risky at the top of a damn. But around The Strat and the busy Las Vegas Boulevard? Woof. High risk. High enough you’d think they would shut down the street to do the stunt.
You’d be wrong.
Dude Perfect sinks a record basketball shot after a few attempts
It was an easy enough plan. Hang off the “SkyJump” perch off of the 108th floor of The Strat, drop a basketball, and hit a shot from 854 feet. Simple enough. They set aside three days to complete their mission. Turns out they needed every second of those days.
When all was said and done, they attempted over 900 shots. Some of the shots landed within feet of pedestrians on Las Vegas Boulevard, on the Boulevard itself, into The Strat garage and whizzing over nearby construction workers.
But then, in something that fellow YouTuber and former NASA engineer Mark Rober said would be next to impossible… they did it. They sank an absolutely epic 3 pointer. It’s almost cruel that the shot is only 3 points, isn’t it?!
