While Sin City might be know for its primarily adult glitz and glamour, Las Vegas is home to many incredible, family friendly experiences. One of the best the city has to offer is undoubtedly Mandalay Bay’s Shark Reef Aquarium, and the experience just got even more exciting with the edition of their brand new, must-sea exhibit!

Shark Reef’s first new exhibit since 2008, “Rocky Coast” opened to the public this July on the Las Vegas Strip. According to a press release, the 35,000 gallon exhibit offers guests a peek into “the cold-water California rocky coast system and the extraordinary creatures that inhabit it.”

Four incredible shark breeds are featured within the new exhibit. Guests will have the opportunity to see leopard sharks, horn sharks, swell sharks, and pyjama sharks co-exist and interact in an up-close setting. Each of the four shark breeds have their own personal characteristics that make this exhibit even more fascinating.

The new exhibit perfectly compliments it’s surrounding cold water exhibits, the Pacific Sea Nettles and the Giant Pacific Octopus. There is even a “hands-on” exhibit within the area where guests have the opportunity to actually touch stingrays! Don’t worry though – staff is on-site to ensure your safety and help you get your hands cleaned up afterwards!

  "Rocky Coast" is Shark Reef's first new exhibit since 2008, and it does not disappoint. Look at this massive 35,000 gallon tank!

• Leopard Shark

  These guys stole the show. They were super active, constantly swimming around and exploring their brand new home. Leopard Sharks are commonly found along the coast of California.

• Swell Shark

  Although the Swell Shark is typically most active at night, this breed didn't hesitate to entertain as well. Swell Sharks are night prowlers that move along the seafloor in search of unsuspecting victims.
• Horn Shark

  These guys were incredible at blending into the various portions of the exhibit. They are a camouflaging ground shark with a spine that resembles a horn!
• Pyjama Shark

  The Pyjama Shark was certainly the most quiet and seemingly sleepy of the four new breeds, but it was only fitting. The stripes on it body look just like those of striped pajamas (hence the name)!

• Swimming in harmony

  As I watched these four breeds co-exist in their new home, I couldn't help but watch in amazement as they swam and interacted amongst one another. The opportunity to see them up-close is an experience I will never forget!

  While Shark Reef has plenty of sharks for guests to see up close, they also have a wide variety of additional sea creatures on display as well. I couldn't take my eyes off these beautiful jellyfish!

  Look how beautiful these guys are! Don't let their beauty fool you though... They're actually venomous!

• Piranha

  When I saw these feisty fish, I'll admit... I was a little intimidated. Fortunately Shark Reef has staff on hand at the exhibit at all times to make sure nobody's fingers end up in their tank.

• Komodo Dragon

  I couldn't get enough of their komodo dragon. Knows as Earth's largest lizard, Shark Reef's komodo dragon actually came from the largest single group of captive-born dragons hatched in the U.S. - a whopping 28 in total!

  Seriously, the exhibits at Mandalay Bay's Shark Reef will have your jaw on the floor. I'd never been so close to so many incredible species and had such an amazing view!

• And to top it off… The XL shark tank!

  Get ready to be amazed... Upon entering the Shipwreck exhibit, you'll be greeted by several of these guys. You might find yourself slightly intimidated, but these guys were peaceful as can be.
