Man Arrested At Las Vegas Airport With Several Pounds Of Drugs
There are two types of people that fly into Las Vegas. The ones that scream “VEGAS!!!!” and the ones that live here. The former sometimes have issues realizing what is right and wrong when in our community and that’s what police say happened at Harry Reid International Airport last week when a man’s bag was allegedly found filled with drugs.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department says they were called by Transportation Safety Administration officers after discovering plastic wrapped packages in his checked bag. The bags were allegedly checked by a man named Mark Washington, who had boarded his flight to Cleveland. Before that flight could push away from the gate, an LVMPD officer got on-board and arrested him.
The plastic wrapped bricks were tested and according to Metro, it came up as cocaine. Over 15 pounds of cocaine. At around 7,000 grams, the haul has a street value of approximately $840,000 which is… a lot.
Washington was arrested and charged with trafficking (given the fact the amount of cocaine was over 1,000 grams) and transporting a controlled substance. But according to the police report, he says this is all a misunderstanding. A friend packed his bag for him. At least that’s what he says in the police report. If so, he needs new friends.
He was booked into Clark County Detention Center and will be in court Monday morning facing the music.
What to do with your drugs before you go to the airport in Las Vegas
Say you did have drugs. You stopped at a dispensary or, like Alan in The Hangover, you bought some pills off a guy at a liquor store. What do you do with your drugs?
First things first, don’t bring them through security at the airport. We have adorable dogs who are trained to NARC you out. Also, don’t flush them down the toilet. All that water ends up back in Lake Mead and results in the carp getting high and our water source getting spiked.
Instead, consider throwing them out in the friendly disposal boxes around the exterior of the airport. They are also at Henderson Executive Airport and North Las Vegas Airport. Just make sure the bricks of cocaine can actually fit through the slot.
